Horsetooth – Stove Prairie – Barring inclement weather, we are again running
the populaire counterclockwise Stove Prairie route, also including the hilly
“Centennial Drive” part of Horsetooth.
Official Checkpoints – Please patronize stores used for
checkpoints.
- Start - I-25 Exit 243 NE Corner –
This is a slightly different location from years past. It is next to
the Conoco station (west side of parking lot) on the northeast corner of the interchange.
- Vern’s in LaPorte –
Clerk at store, unless brevet official present outside store. Tasty pastries
available in bakery at rear of store – a randonneur favorite!
- Stove Prairie –
Unstaffed - This an “informational checkpoint” – annotate your brevet card as
instructed on the card. Stove Prairie has no services – there are no services
between Mishiwaka in Poudre Canyon and Masonville, so make sure you have
enough water.
- Sandy’s Conoco west of
Loveland
- Finish – Have your
card signed by clerk at the finish-line Conoco, if no official present.
Route Info – This route is hilly in places (12%-15%) – consider your
gearing.
- Paradise Valley -
En route to Masonville, we are now crossing US-34 on Rd. 29 to Paradise Valley via the newly completed
and scenic dam road.
- Horsetooth/Centennial -
Observe stop signs and other traffic rules, as local law enforcement has been especially
alert to errant cyclists.
- Poudre Canyon: Narrow
shoulders, be very aware of traffic and ride single file!
- Stove Prairie climb:
3 miles of fairly steep grade out of Poudre Canyon - now sporting smooth, new pavement!
- Stove Prairie to
Masonville – Road has been reconstructed, but beware of turns, cattle
guards, and limited visibility.
- Masonville – on the
way back, you bike beyond Masonville as if going up to Horsetooth as you did
outbound, then turn south ½ mile beyond Masonville.
Secret Checkpoints – Any brevet may have one or more secret
checkpoints along the route.
Finish - Leave your brevet card in official vehicle, after having it
registered and signing your card.
DNF – We do not sweep the course. If you do not finish the brevet, you
may leave a message on 303-604-1163. If my vehicle is at the Park-and-Ride and
you return there, you may leave your brevet card there.
Rule and Waiver– Please review the Brevet Rules and sample Rider
Waiver.
Not a Race – Observe traffic rules, ride responsibly, … and have fun!
