Colorado Brevet Series – 600km Brevet –  25-26-June-2005

Tips for the Rider

®     600km Official Checkpoints – First loop: Brighton, Lyons, Meeker Park/Peak-to-Peak Highway, Wellington, Platteville, and Louisville.  Second loop: Kersey, Hudson, and Louisville.

®     Start/Finish – We will be starting/finishing at the Louisville Comfort Inn northwest of the exit, off Dillon Road. They are graciously offering us parking at the rear (west) side of the building, and if enough riders book rooms, are offering to start their breakfast at 3am rather than 6am. Telephone 303-604-0181 to reach them; there is a possible discount if you mention you are with the bike event.  NOTE: Please be as quiet as you can, as we will be staging near motel rooms.

®     Route Changes from 2004Veteran riders please note!

v      Weld Rd. 6 after Brighton (mile 24.9) – You turn west two miles after leaving the Brighton checkpoint, rather then going up to Ft. Lupton.  This is similar to a segment on the second loop.

v      75th St. after Niwot (mile 44)  – Rather than taking Hwy. 52 to its end, we turn up US-287, through Niwot, and then to Hygiene, avoiding some traffic and new chipseal, and enjoying the beautiful new asphalt on 75th St.

v      Owl Canyon Rd. (mile 154.4)  – Leaving Ft. Collins on Taft Hill Rd., we proceed straight up to Owl Canyon Rd., unlike past years, and unlike this year’s 400k – and approach Wellington from the north.

®     Secret Checkpoints – Any brevet may have one or more secret checkpoints along the route.

®     Glen Haven  - We will not be using the Glen Haven store as a checkpoint, but the connoisseur randonneurs among us will doubtless want to stop in for a cinnamon roll.

®     Overnight Riding – The Kersey Texaco is not open 24 hours; the Hudson checkpoint is probably not either.  If you plan to be on this part of the route (second loop) in the middle of the night, get your card stamped at the Evans 7‑Eleven (jct. US-85) and resupply there, note “Evans” on your card, then proceed onward.

®     Finish-Line Check in – Check in at the Comfort Inn, then sign your card and leave it in the official vehicle behind the motel.  Please thank the motel staff for their hospitality.

Make sure that you turn in your brevet card.  If for some reason you need to clarify your result, have lost your card, etc., leave a message on 303-604-1163.

®     Lighting – Remember that lighting and reflective equipment are REQUIRED for the ride start, which will have 1¼ hours in darkness.  Lighting includes street-legal headlight and taillight.  Reflective equipment includes vest, ankle bands, and reflective material on your bike.

®     DNF – We do not sweep the course.  If you do not finish the brevet, you may leave a message at 303- 604-1163.  If my vehicle is at the Park-and-Ride, you may leave your brevet card there.

®     Not a Race – Observe traffic rules and ride responsibly.  SAFETY FIRST!  And have fun!
