Colorado Brevet Series – 600km Brevet –  16-17 June 2007

Tips for the Rider

®     600km Official Checkpoints – First loop: Brighton, Lyons, Meeker Park/Peak-to-Peak Highway, Glen Haven (info control), Wellington, Gilcrest, and Louisville.  Second loop: Kersey, Hudson, and Louisville.

®     Route VariantsThis brevet has these brief variant segments, which you may take at your own option:

v      Allenspark “Business Hwy. 7” (mile 63) - Avoids some traffic and some wind - a slight bit longer.  Water available.

v      Estes Park - Fish Creek Road (mile 94) – You may take Fish Creek Rd. to Mall Rd. to US-34 (jog LEFT) to Dry Creek Rd. rather than Mary’s Lake to Riverside Rd. - about the same distance.  (Chipsealing of Riverside and Devil’s Gulch (MacGregor) Rd. has been signposted for the days preceding this event.)  Note that you must still take Dry Creek to Devil’s Gulch in order to reach Glen Haven.

v      Big Thompson Narrows. (mile 119) – Exiting Big Thompson Canyon, you may make a left turn after the Dam Store onto Rd. 22H.  Avoids some traffic, ¼ mile of dirt.  Watch for oncoming traffic around curves.

®     Secret Checkpoints – Any brevet may have one or more secret checkpoints along the route.

®     Glen Haven  - There is a NEW, information checkpoint in Glen Haven - it is IMPORTANT to note your time and the info.  We will not be using the Glen Haven store as a checkpoint, but the connoisseur randonneurs among us will doubtless want to stop in for a cinnamon roll!

®     Overnight Riding – The Kersey Texaco is not open 24 hours; the Hudson checkpoint is probably not either.  If you plan to be on this part of the route (second loop) in the middle of the night, get your card stamped at the Evans 7‑Eleven (jct. US-85) and resupply there, note “Evans” on your card, then proceed onward.

®     Finish-Line Check in – Check in at the Comfort Inn, then sign your card and leave it in the official vehicle behind the motel.  Please thank the motel staff for their hospitality.

IMPORTANT - Make SURE that you turn in your brevet card.  If for some reason you need to clarify your result, have lost your card, etc., leave a message on 303-604-1163.  For PARIS-BREST-PARIS: June 17 is the final day to complete qualifying rides for PBP’07, so results must be submitted quickly.  Whether you are qualifying for Paris or not, please make sure everything is in order with your ride: we will not be able to wait long to send in the results.

®     Lighting – Remember that lighting and reflective equipment are REQUIRED for the ride start, which will have 1¼ hours in darkness, and under condition of darkness or poor visibility.  Lighting includes street-legal headlight and taillight.  Reflective equipment includes vest, ankle bands, and reflective material on your bike.

®     DNF – We do not sweep the course.  If you do not finish the brevet, you may leave a message at 303- 604-1163.  If my vehicle is at the Park-and-Ride, you may leave your brevet card there.

®     Not a Race – Observe traffic rules and ride responsibly.  SAFETY FIRST!  And have fun!
