Overview
The Rocky Mountain Cycling Club is proud to announce the formation of a focus group within our organization. The group will be concerned with those issues particularly relevant to women cyclists. Getting more women involved in the club, and promoting comraderie and a supporting atmosphere will be the main objectives.
Let's take advantage of the Wednesday Night Rides starting this Wednesday out of South High School. The rides will be lead by Rick Melick, a long time
and quite experienced rider. Rick has an abundance of knowlege about riding and sets these rides up to be challenging, but fun! He is incorpoating the
same philosopy of the "chicks", leaving no one riding alone.
After the ride the group usually has dinner at The Handlebar Grill, just west of Washington Park on Alameda. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate
to contact Beth Long. See you there!!
We are in the beginning stages of organizing the Rocky Mountain Cycling Chicks. We have met a couple of times in conjunction with the regular RMCC ride. The idea is for women to meet others to ride with and that no one is left riding alone. The first two rides were relatively small, but we had a great time.
The group will be expanding as we move into March. As the weather gets warmer and the days longer, we will begin doing mid-week rides as well--linking up with the regular RMCC Wednesday night ride and offering a Thursday night ride out of my house in southeast Denver, with a light dinner to follow.
As a group, our focus will be to make friends, improve as cyclists, and to better retain women of all riding levels in the club. Catherine Shenk, a very accomplished rider, has generoursly offered to help any women who want to learn more about distance riding around March 22nd. More details will be forthcoming.
Please continue to check back here as things continue to develop!
