1994 Brevet Series Results

PBP Qualification - While most riders weren’t heading for PBP,

these brevets counted as the first of two years of qualifying rides for Paris-Brest-Paris 1995

for US riders who’d not yet completed a 1200km brevet, as required by International Randonneurs,

the US sanctioning organization at that time.

Results are listed in order of finishing time, as per the convention at the time.

200 K Evans Route -- 8-May-94

Sunny, breezy-to-windy conditions: riders faced a stiff headwind all the way north from Northglenn to Evans, and were rewarded by a monstrous “breeze” of a flight down US-85 to highway 52, where they had to lean into a crosswind though enjoying a view of the Rocky Mountains.

400K Granby-Walden -- 18-Jun-94

Typical late-June conditions in the High Country - a wonderful, mild, sunny start to the day, with thunderheads building sooner than you’d expected. Rolling sagebrush terrain from Walden, where strong riders could make good time. The fastest of them reached the post-Kremmling turnaround point just in time to be wafted back (dry) by thunderstorms whose drenching moisture caught the hapless but resilient rest of the ridership. This brevet let riders claim four above-10,000 ft.-pass climbs and two crossing of the Continental Divide, but for all of that a manageable challenge. On the final stretch at night back over Willow Creek Pass, keeping an eye out for moose or other wild creatures was the highest priority. The first to finish (Mike Fulton) rode the event on his his a mountain bike.
